Curaçao’s Bid for CARICOM Associate Membership Confirmed
We are thrilled to share that Curaçao’s bid for associate membership in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has been confirmed by CARICOM Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett. This milestone was achieved on June 4, 2024, after extensive negotiations between the Curaçao delegation and the CARICOM Secretariat.
Deepening Integration into the Caribbean Community
This significant step deepens Curaçao’s integration into the Caribbean community. Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas is set to sign the accession treaty in Grenada on July 3, 2024. As we move towards formalizing our membership, the legal procedures within the Kingdom of the Netherlands are being finalized, with the Kingdom Government poised to endorse the draft treaty.
Joining a Vibrant Group of Nations
By joining CARICOM as the sixth associate member, Curaçao will now be part of a vibrant group of 15 member states and 5 associate members. This membership opens doors to numerous benefits, including:
- Participation in regional integration initiatives
- Boosting economic activities
- Enhancing regional security measures
- Collaborating on environmental projects
- Promoting socio-cultural development
We look forward to the opportunities and collaborations this membership will bring, strengthening our bonds within the Caribbean community.
